We were set the task to create alternative displays for our work for our specialisms. I began to think about what my work was- a story. There is a place where the story takes place in real life so why not start there!
In the town where the two main people of the story of The Maid of Cefn Ydfa there is a memorial for them. It is placed directly in the middle of the town. I thought it could be a good idea to either display the images on the statue or around it. It gives the story more depth and meaning.

There is some negatives to displaying the images here though. This statue is used as a mini roundabout so there is a high possibility that these images could get damaged by the cars!
I then began thinking about the main places in the story- the woods. Where can display images in the wood?
On trees. Maybe on the path entering the woods so people could see it straight away. But then I thought back to the story and how they hid letters in the trees so maybe the images should be slightly hidden- but not completely as I do want people to see them!
Lastly, with the thought of letters on my mind, I came up with my final idea. Just allowing people to display them in their house by posting the images through their letterbox. This again links to the story through the letters!
I enjoy thinking about alternative displays and how I can link them to my work- instead of just putting them in a gallery (talk about boring!). Displaying this way can also lead to more interactions from people as they are all curious about why it is out of place! If COVID wasn't around I would be posting my work through people's letterboxes, I think it's a great way to connect with a community and get your name out there.
