I collaborated on an exhibition concept with a girl called Ellen.
We started thinking about why people send postcards and what emotion are they feeling when they do. We wanted the exhibition to help create those emotions to give the full experience of the postcards. The main emotion/ feeling we thought people would feel is loneliness from missing a loved one.
We then began to think that instead of enhancing that emotion our exhibition should be able to give a sense of comfort to the audience. There's a word called "Cwtch" in Welsh which means hug. That word is always used to describe a room sometimes (The Cwtch). The room is usually warm, cosy, homely and feels like a hug.
The room I think of when I hear that is a log cabin with a log fire, Ellen agreed.

This was the floor plan we came up. It is small, to maintain that cosy and homely atmosphere.
We decided that the postcards would be laminated and placed on the coffee table where people can sit down and look through them. We also talked about whether there would be any text in the room- we chose not to include that. Therefore people can use their own imagination and experiences and interpret them in their own way.
Although we said no to text we did come up with an idea, that people can write down their own feelings and experiences- to make the exhibition interactive- connecting to the audience even more. There would be blackboards by the door where people can write down who they miss before they leave the space. Not only does it allow the art to connect to the audience but also it allows different people connect together as they might be missing the same people- it can help them not feel alone.
Once we had finished the plan for The Cwtch Room Exhibition, we didn't feel like it was complete. We started throwing "What's If's" at each other until we landed on- What if we could make this?
So we brainstormed and we decided that we could make this room on Minecraft as then the idea would be more clearly put across. It also a possibility to have an exhibition on an online game like Minecraft now due to lockdown- it is a safe way to show your work!
