We were giving the task to explore the word "edges", whether literally or in metaphors or in any form.
I began to explore the word edges in quick drawings without thinking too much about them. I did about 8 drawings of exploring edges on paper. I drew an edge of a cliff, a tree on the edges of the paper, an eye on the edge of tears and somebody on edge. those are just some examples.
I also played around with the literal edges of the paper. I wrote edges on the side of the book so it goes through all the pages, I ripped the edges of a page and I burnt the edges off a page (do not do this inside with all the windows closed, there's a lot of ash!).
I had fun thinking about the word this way but I wanted to explore it more in my specialism- Photography. I was planning of climbing the mountain by my house but over the weekend it had been snowing and it was very icey so I was stumped I didn't know where to go. But then, I passed my drivers test! Therefore I could drive anywhere! Well in the limits of lockdown.
I took my sister to the beach- which is a 30 minute drive away- and I decided to explore edges there.
I had my, very scared of heights, sister stand on the edge of the pier which was quite comical to watch. Here are some of the outcomes:
When travelling back, we took the scenic route- through the mountains not over them. Thought that an edge of the mountain would be a good idea. However, while we were driving I thought about how society ends and then there is just endless green- the edge of the community. The edge where society meets nature:
I enjoyed the exploration of edges. So far I have mostly looked at literal and physical edges. Next time I think I will look at a different type of edges. I will carry this topic on as I found it very fun to do- it made me realise that everything has an edge whether that be a literal edge or an metaphorical edge.
