Over the summer I was given a project, to identify a collection.
My collection was of jewelleries which have been past down through my family, and new objects which will be past down.
The oldest piece of jewellery is from 1969- a gold ring which my Grandmother was given by her Father on their last holiday.
One of the newer pieces is a silver bracelet which has been given to every daughter in my immediate family.
On my first first in Bath Spa uni we displayed our collections and then looked around at every-bodies work. It was like an exhibition! I found it very wholesome as some of peoples work was very inspiring and heartfelt. We all left a message on everyones work on what we thought was interesting about it. Here's what people wrote about mine:
Our first task with the collection was a series of speed drawings using different techniques- for example, continuous line and drawing the blank spaces. This task wasn’t really my favourite activity as I prefer to take my time when drawing and I only really use mark making in my drawings. However, it was fun to experiment with different techniques!
We then worked on collaborating tasks, by working together to produce a piece of art which is a mix of everyone’s techniques. I had a lot of fun doing this task as i got to meet new people and have a laugh with them! (We still managed to finish the work!).
Lastly, the final task was to make a sculpture of one of the images produced in the previous task. We chose to image of my golden bracelet. This was extremely fun and also frustrating at the same time! Me and my friend Ellen had a little brainstorm at the beginning of the project to try and come up with the best way to make the balls on the ends of the bracelet and the twists of the bands which wrap around the whole bracelet. In the end we decided to plait rolls of paper like hair to create the twisted look of the bracelet. And to create the balls we used a cardboard cut out and taped paper inside it to give it a circular look (as best as we could!).
This last activity was my favourite this week!
